They Might Be Giants, 9:30 club tonight, Washington DC.
And I'm going!!!!! My dear friend hannah has graciously acquiesced to accompany me to see John Flansburgh and John Linnell, otherwise known as They Might Be Giants, tonight at the 9:30 club here in DC. This will be my second time seeing them this year (the first being this past May in Charlottesville VA at Starr Hill Music Hall). Tonight's show should be awesome as their opener, Oppenheimer, is supposed to be good as well (mini-review here).
When I went to the May show I was, wrongly, disappointed because they played a lot of new songs from their soon to be released new album, The Else. Now that the album has been released & I am familiar w/the songs I think I will enjoy tonight's show MUCH more. Now, don't get me wrong - May's show was awesom - but its different when you go to your favorite band's concert & have never heard 1/2 the songs before.
Furthermore, at larger metropolitan venues like this & other locations (such as the House Of Blues), John & John have been known to bring out their brass section to the stage w/ them which are normally only heard on the albums when recorded in the studio. If this happens, it will be the first time I've been to one of their concerts & gotten to hear the full band w/ the brass section. I can only hope.
When I return tonight, if I'm awake enough, I shall give a full review - if not then, I shall tomorrow.
