How to play a video game on paper

When you want to play a video game, but can't because you don't have one, or your parents say you can't play it? What if you want play a game in school, in the car or anywhere and your GameBoy is dead? If your 'rents are using the TV? What to do to cure that boredom? Try this.

Steps

  1. Get a blank piece of paper.

  2. Draw some sort of monster on it, but don't fill up the page. Use a pencil so you can erase when he gets hurt.

  3. Give it a name and a health bar.

  4. Draw two smaller characters. You can make them up yourself.

  5. Give your characters names and health bars. Write a 100 above each health bar.

  6. Draw a magic bar

  7. Think up some attacks for your characters, and a few for the boss too. They should do varying amounts of damage the strong ones use magic.

  8. Have one of your characters attack. Subtract the attack value from the enemy.

  9. Have the characters take turns attacking. You can play with your characters on the same team, or you can have all three go at it.

  10. Once the boss is down to zero health, you have advanced to Level 2. Reward yourself by unlocking something like power Armor or Fire Arrow or a new character. One idea is that every level you unlock a Fusion ability, which lets you merge two characters into one.

  11. Once you're on level 2, keep going. There's really no limit in levels--just your imagination.

  12. Then, finally sit in your room for hours on end, and your parent will think your doing something naughty, but you're just playing VIDEO GAMES!

Tips

  • Add 10 HP whenever you gain a level. Experiment with different attack powers.

  • Try playing co-op--you control one character and a friend controls the other or 1 on 1 battle.

  • To make yourself more motivated, plan out attacks for your characters to learn on later levels, like Meteor smash on Level Five.

  • For the Health Bar, make a narrow box but don't fill it. Whenever the character gets hurt color in some of the bar to represent damage or when you use a healing move rub out some damage and when the bar's all colored...well, you're dead.

Warnings

  • People might think you are weird

  • Don't tell your friends who play D&D about this, unless you want them to try and recruit you for their next session

Mac Attack Beginning, Poll Shows

From YahooNews by Patrick Seitz.
Apple Computer is poised to grab more converts to its

Macintosh computers this holiday season, according to a new survey.

The new Mac buyers are driven as much by Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL - News) decision to switch to Intel (NASDAQ:INTC - News) processors as they are from the halo effect associated with the company's much-loved iPod portable music players. In its latest survey, ChangeWave Research found a large and growing pool of consumers who say they're more likely to buy one of the new Intel-based Macs.

The survey of 3,046 members of the ChangeWave Alliance shows that 37% say they're more likely to buy an Apple computer because of the Intel chips. That's nearly double the 19% found in a June 2005 survey, taken just after Apple said it was switching to Intel chips for its Mac computers. It had used chips made by IBM (NYSE:IBM - News) and Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL - News).

Members of the ChangeWave panel tend to be more tech savvy than average consumers. The group is made up of 9,000 business, technology and medical professionals who are working on the front line of technological change.

"In a world where a 1% market share change represents $2 billion in sales, we're forecasting a historic market share shift in the PC space for laptops and desktops with these new Intel-based Macs," said Tobin Smith, founder of ChangeWave Research and editor of ChangeWave Investing. "Market share grabs like this just don't happen in the PC world. Our numbers say that the Mac is surging."

Apple's share of laptops bought July-September was up 3 percentage points to an all-time high of 12% among alliance members. Its share of desktops purchased the past 90 days fell 4 points to 7%. In the next six months, Apple's share of all planned desktop purchases is up 4 points to 18%. Its share of planned laptop purchases is down 2 points to 17%.

Quote of the day: Jobs: ‘The girl’s got up and left’

From Reuters:

Apple Computer doesn't expect the iPod media player to be hurt by Microsoft's Zune, Chief Executive Steve Jobs said in a magazine interview.

Microsoft has touted Zune, a portable media player due to be launched in the United States in time for the holiday shopping season, as a potential threat to the dominant iPod because of its ability to share music wirelessly.

"It takes forever," Jobs told Newsweek in an interview posted on the magazine's Web site on Sunday. "By the time you've gone through all that, the girl's got up and left."

Jobs was equally unconcerned about the prospect of the iPod losing its cool factor as it becomes increasingly ubiquitous.

"That's like saying you don't want to kiss your lover's lips because everyone has lips. It doesn't make any sense," said Jobs.

Well as some of you may have noticed, Tuzworld is now in version 3.0. After about 3 and a half years now I think I like this revision the best. I'm very proud of this one, much moreso than the others. If anyone has a suggestion or differing opinion email/call/im/comment.

They're dynamiting the rock at the lake today and tomorrow. Hopefully we may have the rest of the bulldozer work finished sometime next week because of this.
