I had the pleasure of playing the "updated" tron v2.0 demo the other night with ryan!

found out about it (that the demo was worth a shot) from him, his bro, and aaron when we were having dinner one night. i suggest you give it a shot. it's a 202 mb down load and is a pretty fun multiplayer. maybe we could play some one weekend? just message me via waste so we can hook up.

if you do decide to give it a shot don't forget to down load the "updated demo" (it's like 202 mb's) otherwise you'll run into the same version mismatch ryan and i experienced the other night. whoops!

The virus is going by two names now. Some Anti-virus companies are calling it the Blaster worm and some are calling it the LoveSan Worm. Intersting quote that I thought worth documenting:

"OUTSIDE THE SUCCESSION of women's stores, Oleg just stood around and smoked his cigarettes like any other man in the world, intensely bored by the details of women's shopping. How they could enjoy the process of picking and comparing, picking and comparing, never making a decision, just sucking in the ambience of being surrounded by things they couldn't wear and didn't really like? They always took the dress and held it up to their necks and looked in a mirror and decided nyet, not this one. On and on and on, past the sunset and into the night, as though their very souls depended on it. Oleg had learned patience with his current life-threatening adventure, but one thing he'd never learned, and never expected to learn, was how to watch a woman shop without wishing to throttle her. Just standing there like a fucking beast of burden, holding the things she'd finally decided to purchasethen waiting while she decided to change her mind or not."

As written by The Inquirer:

Abit throws gauntlet down to RIAA, governments
See the article here.

Basically, Abit has just released their newest power-user motherboard. Its dubbed the MAX3 - FYI - I own the MAX1. Its the version that has no legacy on it. It has: onboard firewire, 8 USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet etc etc. However, the most exciting feature is a new option that encrypts the data written to your hard drive on the fly, as the data is written to the disk in real time. In order for you to boot your computer you must insert a special usb-keychain drive that comes with the motherboard. This keychain litteraly contains the super-encrypted uber key that gives the motherboard access to the harddrive for daily use. If at any point the key is removed and subseqently destroyed, the data is lost forever(IE: keep a hammer handy next to the comp just in case the feds come a knockin').

To see more details about the motherboard go here. And to see more information about how the data is encrypted and how the key works, go here.

On another note: I think I'll be buying this or the evolutionary little brother of the board the next time I upgrade.

How Not To Get Sued By The RIAA For File-Sharing

(And Other Ideas to Avoid Being Treated Like a Criminal)

The Recording Industry Ass. of America (RIAA) announced on June 25, 2003, that it will begin suing users of peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing systems within the next few weeks. According to the announcement, the RIAA will be targeting users who upload/share "substantial" amounts of copyrighted music. The RIAA has stated that it will choose who to sue by using software that scans users' publicly available P2P directories and then identifies the ISP of each user. Then, using the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the RIAA will subpoena the ISP for each user's name, address, and other personal information in order to sue that user.

While there is no way to know exactly what the RIAA is going to do, who it is going to sue, or even how much music qualifies as a "substantial" amount, users of P2P networks can take the following steps to reduce their chances of being sued: Read more...
