Great post Joel! I'm in the middle of making similar decisions for my family. Though live sports is not a game-changer for me (that's why we have friends and sports bars). My main concern is losing the ability to just plop down in front of the TV and watch whatever is on for a few quick minutes. While I love a lot of current TV shows (Entourage, True Blood, House, Big Bang Theory, Glee, etc) and watch them religiously, many times I don't want to commit to a full 30 or 60min episode. Not even the shorter versions without commercials. I would venture to say that 3+ times a week I am faced with less then 60 minutes of free time that could end at any moment.
Example:
I'm supposed to go out with my wife. I am ready to go but she says she needs a minute, which I know is more like 15min. (This never happens...right?) I turn on the TV....
Now do I take the time to select a good show to watch, knowing that I will only get to watch half of it or even less? Say I even choose something light like a sitcom. Do I really want to walk away from Two and a Half Men when Charlie is just starting to get drunk? No way! I want to watch something relaxing (read: mind-numbing), entertaining, yet easy to walk away from. I'm sorry Joel but the reality-based programming you described is exactly what I'm talking about. It's the best way to let a few minutes fly by like it never happened. I can pop on TLC and watch some mother from the deep south get her 2yo daughter spray tanned at an auto body shop. I was thoroughly entertained for those few minutes and I'm just fine not knowing if the little girl won the pageant or not. (Toddlers & Tiaras) Or watch a chef make a cake that looks like the leaning tower of Pisa or my personal favorite Swamp People.
Losing all of that plus SportsCenter and the overtly partisan cable news networks might be more then i'm willing to live without....OK maybe not the news networks.

Well at least the police didn't press the matter and force them to stop filming. There have been worse cases than these in the US. Freedoms sure are hard to keep...

Saw her perform at an NYU talent show when she was still a student there. Nothing like the Lady Gaga act -- just a girl and a piano, and much like you said, she has a great deal of talent.

I often wonder what would have happened had she continued down that route. Fame is fleeting but artistry is another matter.

Hi there,

I've heard of Sugarsyc and tried it out before. I find I prefer Dropbox. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Good article – here is another cloud storage solution that is fully encrypted:
With SugarSync, you get 5GB of cloud storage space with the FREE version, but now there is no restriction to the number of computers you can sync/backup (up from 2).
It gives you the ability to upload and sync any folder on your computer.
It is the only service that offers such a broad device and OS support with apps for BlackBerry, Android, iPhone/iPad, Symbian, not to mention your computer!
You can also stream MP3 music files to your smartphone or computer.

Also if you use the below referral code you get a bonus 500MB extra on top of your Free 5GB!

https://www.sugarsync.com/referral?rf=tbtp0asbw9pt

Hope it helps someone.
